The SY straight line method treats all additions and acquisitions, for the current year, as having occurred at the start of the year, rather than at the date of acquisition.


The SA straight line method depreciates an asset with a value other than cost. This was designed to allow assets to have the method changed from diminishing value to straight line. The accumulated depreciation is used to adjust the cost base so that the straight line depreciation then applies to the reduced cost base.


The Methods WF and WM are used in some industry sectors where tax legislation allows for these rapid write downs in value.
